Appeal to Justice Verma Committee
Respected Sir, This is with reference to the suggestions being invited on the amendment of laws on safety and security of women. It is truly a very vast field to be covered and I am sure you will receive good suggestions on the usual aspects. I wish to cover only two small aspects which might not be touched upon by the others. 1. Role of Media /TV/Advertisements :- A large percentage of youth in our country are not gainfully employed .The main pastime for them is watching TV Channels and movies. And what do we have here? Item numbers in movies (mostly not relevant to the storyline-inserted because producers feel people ‘want’ it),advertisements showing women as an object of desire, scantily dressed young girls of tender age trained to dance with provocative and indecent gestures, molestation scenes with “innovative” variations, woman shown using various beauty products as if their sole aim is to ‘hook’ men. All this goes into the psyche
